Let's move on to the elections - time's short
I see the "loyal" opposition has weighed in. (See comments). He thinks I hate Bush and that's not quite true. I try very hard not to hate people. It's counter-productive and a big waste of energy. With some people though, my principles are difficult to remember. I think he is an unwitting tool of the neocons and the religious right. I have no problem at all with hating them as a group. They're evil personified.
I think he's mistaken about Iraq. I know many people, including my older son, who thinks getting in was a mistake but that we can't leave because we're there now. I don't agree with him either. It makes for some interesting conversations. He's a good kid and we talk a lot.
I wonder what the reasoning will be for invading Iran. It seems to be next on the list.
We're busy building a coalition of nations who despise us.
Anyhow, the link in the title is David Corn of Slate talking about us getting our act together. He says what all of us know, the party needs to unify and it needs a clear message - soon. Otherwise, Rove and Co. will trot out the same old rhetoric and smears and it will be 2004 all over again. The party with the prettiest faces and the most noticeable ads will win in spite of 6 years of one screwup after another. In spite of the lies, the corruption, the erosion of civil rights. In spite of the daily bloodshed. In spite of the cuts to education, medical care, aid to the poor and elderly (quite often the same thing), in spite of their professed love of children (up until the minute they're born) while denying them care.
They are experts at zeroing in on our fear and feeding it. We have to get off the defensive and off our collective, timid butts. Stop apologizing, stop trying to go along in hopes of finding a common ground. There is none and believe me, I've tried.
They want it all and they'll get it unless we do something.
We don't have much time.
