Here's the real President
I said I'd probably ignore the State of the union tonight and that's what I did. I helped with homework, did the dishes, took a short nap and then kept my husband company while he watched an old sci-fi show and I caught up on email. I picked up a little from CNN and I'll get around to the only place I seem to find honesty these days - the blogs.
I had heard about Presidential signing statements before this but not in such detail as this Slate article today.
I see most things simply and to me it says if the President doesn't like a bill he is forced to sign (usually a a public relations ploy), he just adds a disclaimer at the bottom and ignores the provisions. You experts out there, did I get it right? If I get a traffic ticket, can I sign it and add a little note on the bottom that I'm above the law so thanks but I won't pay the ticket? I didn't think so.
Most of you will probably be seeing comments on your blogs from me eventually if you've posted about the State of the Union. I had just had enough of his smirking face and went on strike for a little while. I did see enough of CNN's onesided recap to see the Dems sitting on their hands except when Dubya mentioned the failure of his social security "reform". CNN was critical of this seeming partisanship - I was cheering.
No word yet from Worried. It's past midnight where she is and I hope she is able to rest.

WorriedAmerican, hope you can rest, too.
Bundled good wishes to you and your Mom, and my pal Ann, BTW
And Ann, I can't watch Bush. More power to you for being able to stomach a minute of him. As for me, I'll read the transcripts if there is ANYTHING of importance, but there never is. Just one failure after the next, never acknowledged, all dressed up in churchy robes.
If you want to get a gander at signing statements, check out Article II of the U.S. Constitution. They are not mentioned.
