The whole push for deregulation is quite dangerous. People forget why the regulations were enacted in the first place.
Case in point: The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. Before that time, a company could label a bottle of pills "contains aspirin" if only one out of 100 pills contained any amount of aspirin. Now, the pharmaceutical industry is writing their own guidelines.
I remember reading in the paper a warning that eating too much tuna is bad for you because of the high levels of mercury found in it. The really odd thing is that, two years earlier, I had read an article in the same paper warning not to feed canned tuna to your cat because of the high levels of mercury in it. And now, instead of figuring out how to keep the mercury from getting into the fish, they're re-writing the regulations to redefine what levels are dangerous.
But think of all the coal miners in W Va that would have been gay-married by now if Pres Bush hadn't protected them...

I wonder how the dying miners as they suffered during their last hours, and now their families and friends, feel about how the President has "protected" them.
