BAD SHEPHERDS
I have absolutely no intention of turning this blog into a forum on religion nor to initiate religious debate. But I feel compelled to comment on the Pat Robertson latest asininity. If his supporters are offended, sobeit; he offends me and countless others.
He and his ilk like to pound the God/Jesus drum, in the name of God, doing God's work, and being self appointed spokesmen for God.
During his time on earth Jesus often used parables to illustrate his teachings, and one was of the good shepherd tending the flocks of sheep. He called himself a shepherd and his followers his flocks. He admonished his disciples to "feed my sheep". Modern day pastors sometimes refer to their congrgations as their "flocks", indicating that they view the religious leaders as shepherds.
My personal opinion: If mankind is indeed judged by his actions upon facing his final day before heaven, I think these "shepherds" will be judged by a stricter standard than the common man, that they will be held to a higher standard of accountability. They assumed the mantle of being God's spokesman, of leading the flocks, and if in God's name they have offended and driven away the "sheep", they will answer for it. A good shepherd tends his flocks diligently, cherishes and protects them. He does not drive them away.
Pat Robertson TV program has an audience of millions plus millions more through news reports of his posturing and publicity grabs. How many of his audience members has he offended, has he caused to turn away in disgust from God and religion? I personally have heard remarks that if God is like that, they want no part of Him. If we are to be judged, as Christians believe we are to be when we stand before our Maker, the souls of these ones driven away may be required of Mr. Robertson. He may be held responsible for offending them.
Shame, shame, shame upon you Mr. Robertson. I do not believe you are privy to the mind of God, nor do I believe that God is your lackey, your strongarm man, to punish those who displease you.Fie upon you, sir, and shame, shame, shame.

I love the way "worried" turns a phrase.
She's much more civil than I. I'm the one with the gay son.
