Invisible Men
Of the 400 men currently resident at Guantanamo, ten have been charged with serious crimes, others are just there. Many have only the most tenuous connection to terrorism and have been turned in by "bounty hunters"

After what they've done to them, they are scared to release them - figuring they've engendered enough hatred and rage the men will REALLY become terrorists.
Aren't so many of these tactics like the McCarthy witch hunts? Keep hammering at someone until the poor wretch would give them names, any names, just to get them off the victim's back. And old Joe figured if a victim had the slightest contact with someone -went to school with him in 3rd grade? - did business with a firm where the victim worked, rode the same bus or train to work --just anything at all made you suspect. Sounds all too familiar. At least Joe just tortured them mentally, ruined their careers, caused them to lose friends, family, everything -- destroyed them emotionally, psychologically and mentally. Evil, evil, evil.

Of course it is. I can understand panic in the aftermath of 9/11 but they're still there.
Worried American and I both remember the fear at the time of McCarthy who turned out, in the end, to be a raving lunatic.
We had people of courage back then; we need a few right now.
