Impeach or Not Impeach: That is the Question

Regular readers here know that I am in favor of impeaching the chief criminals in the White House - Bush and Cheney - and would like nothing better than to see them punished for their criminal acts: lying to the public in order to advance their ambitions to become an imperial power in the world, engaging in illegal wars (Iraq and aid to Israel in war on Lebanon) that have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, injuries and displacement of innocent civilians as well as destruction of infrastructure of attacked nations, deaths and injuries of our own military citizens, waste of nearly a trillion dollars on war, crushing national debt, violation of our Constitution and most basic freedoms, taking actions that transform our free, democratic country into a theocratic-corporate fascist nation, earning the hatred and contempt of most of the world and gaining a reputation as a "rogue nation", and...and...and...! I could go on for pages in a virulent rant of outraged fury.

However, apparently there is another side of the impeachment story. I am always willing to hear both sides of an issue. Sometimes patience is required. After all, we have nearly 2 years to investigate, gain solid proof to present to the citizens and then hit them like a ton of bricks. And hopefully, expose all the neocon rats (and predecessors) that helped construct the monstrosity that this administration has become. WA

Why Impeachment Is Crucial
Jennifer Van Bergen : "The choice is not between impeachment and Iraq, or impeachment and ethics, or impeachment and the budget. Impeachment proceedings are not the beginning but the end result of a healing process for the nation that needs to begin now. Impeachment begins with investigations."

Impeachment At Our Peril
David Corn : "The matter of impeachment, like most issues in the real world, cannot be considered in a vacuum. The key question is not whether there is a case, but whether it should be prosecuted. The Democrats would do so at their peril—and at risk to their agenda, which includes stopping the war in Iraq."

Also from Tom Paine; we might call this music to impeach by.

Not to weigh in on one side of the impeachment argument, but Neil Young's "Let's Impeach The President" video does make a pretty good case.

Impeachment, or resignation, is our only alternative, unless we want to admit we no longer believe in the rule of law. Yes, we end up with Cheney. If he doesn't toe the line, he can be impeached as well.

Resignation is what I favor. The Iraq Report reads like an impeachment document.

Cynthia McKinney proposed a bill to impeach Bush. She is just not the right person to do that.

    Holiday Impeachment Cards...

Impeach for Peace has created holiday impeachment cards that allow your friends and family to initiate the impeachment process. Deck the halls of congress with colorful impeachment petitions! Now that Representative McKinney has introduced Articles of Impeachment to Congress, it's time for us to show the other Members of Congress our support. So, Impeach for Peace created the Holiday Impeachment image, and researched a company that will allow you to send jumbo sized postcards along with a personalized message using your web browser. To learn more about this method of inititiating impeachment, go to:

Soon, Santa will be delivering sacks and sacks of mail to Nancy Pelosi initiating impeachment via the House of Representative's own rules. This legal document is as binding as if a State or if the House itself passed the impeachment resolution (H.R. 635). What better gift to give this holiday season than the restoration of our democracy? Truly the gift that keeps on giving. Over this past year, Bush has become an even greater threat to our Constitution. Lucky for us, the rules of the US House of Representatives allow for individual citizens like you and I to initiate the impeachment process directly! This process was successfully used to impeach in the past.

Be a part of history and have a merry impeachment this season!

I've explored some of the different arguments, and I say impeachment is necessary. People opposed to impeachment are worried that it might hurt democrats' future electability. Screw that. They are obligated to hold ciminals accountable, especially criminals in government. Anything less is complicity, and equally impeachable, in my opinion.
