Great Minds Run in Same Circles

Granny and I are partners on this blog. Occasionally we post on the same news item. Tonight as I composed my post and clicked over to edit post page, I saw that Granny had been one step ahead of me. Since her links failed to work, I'll include them here.(below)

I have long been opposed to violent movies and video games for children and teens, for all the good it did for me to object. I believe that such activities shape and mold the character of children, influence their attitudes, warp their moral standards, teach them to flout the law, inure them to violence and cruelty, rob them of compassion and mercy, and cause them to have little or no respect for their fellow humans. Now there is medical proof that violent video games change children's brains on a physiological level.(see url below)

I say it is one of the many issues about which I am passionate; Gadfly snorts and says I'm rabid. OK, so I'm rabidly opposed . Gadfly also asks me if I am going to cut the Fundies some slack now that the election is over. I rabidly reply, "NO! Never!" Not as long as they keep trying to gain control of our government and schooling, not as long as they keep trying to force their (non-)Christian ideology on the rest of America. I see no difference between the goals of the Fundamentalist Christians and the Fundamentalist Muslims; only their methods differ, so far.

So far. I question their future methods when they gain more power. Their approval of this violent video game indicates a harbringer for the future and does not bode well for the rest of us. Their stated goal once they have achieved control of or through the government is to transform America into a "nation under God", and all non-believers (in their brand of religion) and certain sinners to be executed; that accomplished, they want the entire world to become a "world under God", according to their beliefs. Incidentally, they squall like wounded panthers about the news that Fundie Muslims force non-Muslims to convert on pain of death. What's the diff??

Anyone interested in the medical findings of how violent video games affect the brain physiologically click on: http://archives-text.blogspot.com/2006/11/this-is-your-childs-brain-on-violent.html

The first article is fairly short; the second is much longer but both offer medical proof of how violent video games affect our children's brains. Note that the games used in the tests were only mildly violent; what effect do the really violent ones have? Also, the time factor was only minutes - half an hour at most. Very few play that short a time; some kids play for many hours which must intensify the effects.

Defenders of the game assert that players who engage in too much violence (killing) lose their souls and go over to the dark side - the Antichrist forces. But apparently they can recharge their souls and remain good guys; see quote below.
"In fact, after particularly bloody battles, players must use prayer to recharge their "soul points" that have been diminished by the killing." [WA. Kill all you want to, then say a little prayer and you're "saved" again?]
