A Change of Subject
Today, I'm looking at issues that affect women and children. Here are three from TomPaine.
The first deals with the efforts of the Administration to cripple the agencies and oversightboards/committees set up to ensure equality in the workplace.
The second is a bright note for pregnant teens. Thirtyeight Democrats and four Republicans defeated the "Teen Endangerment Act". That's only 42 out of 100. I'll have to check the tally. Sounds like several Senators played hookey that day.
Update: It was a cloture vote which failed. Evidently it defeated the original bill which passed during the summer. If all 100 had voted, they'd have only 58 yeas, not enough.
Finally, what about marriage as a solution to poverty? Plenty, according the author of this article. It's another attack by the religious right on civil liberties, equality for all, and solves nothing.

Good grief, the government can't promote marriage anymore? What's next, the government can't promote safe workplace practices, or protect the environment? Please people, have a care what kind of arguments you use to attack the regime. Marriage has obvious benefits for society. As progressives, we want to extend the benefits of marriage, not restrict them. We want homosexual couples to enjoy it, just like - a mere 4 decades ago - we wanted interracial ones to enjoy it.
Just because we might agree on the policy for very (VERY) different reasons, does not mean we have to oppose the policy.
