AlterNet: The Religious Right Goes to Washington

Thanks, Gadfly. I couldn't get Alternet to load last night and wanted to publish this. I was beating my head on the keyboard.

Religious Right Goes to Washington -- and they have a lot of pull on the Hill.

Republican presidential candidates fell all over themselve to pander to religious conservatives at last weekend's "Values Voter Summit" -- billed as the most important political event in the Christian Right's history. An AlterNet reporter covered the scene.

These CR radicals were spawned by that Dobson fanatic. They are real influential in Washington because they command millions of deluded voters.

This article gives you an idea of a little bit of their agendas at their Washington briefings. They influence and brainwash christian voters and deliver large voting blocs to politicians friendly to their causes. ________________________________________________________

Voicing Our Values
This past weekend over 1,700 people gathered here in Washington, D.C. to give voice to their values. FRC Action joined with Focus on the Family Action, American Family Association Action, and Americans United to Preserve Marriage in hosting the Washington Briefing, a call to action for voter participation.

The summit provided a unique platform for influential pastors, leaders, and politicians to discuss and address the concerns of social conservatives. Among the speakers at the rally were a number of national figures, including Sen. George Allen, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Sen. Sam Brownback, Newt Gingrich, Gov. Mitt Romney, and Sen. Rick Santorum.

The Washington Briefing, however, was not an opportunity for us to endorse candidates but rather an opportunity for candidates to endorse us and our values. That is why the most important people at the event were not the politicians standing behind the podium but the parents, pastors, students, and families sitting in the audience.

For nearly 15 years, FRC Action has maintained a vigilant presence on Capitol Hill. But it is on weekends like this where we inform and mobilize these values voters that our most important work is accomplished.
