Baby Beauty Queens
Little Ballerinas.........
The horror of little Jon Benet Ramsey has remained in the consciousness of the American public.
I was greatly distressed when my grand daughter-in-law began entering her daughter, my great- grand daughter, in Beauty Pageants. She has made it to National twice and won several categories. She is adorable in her entry constumes but I disapprove.
The family is very protective of her, as with all our little ones, but no one is ever truly safe from a determined or opportunistic predator. Even the most shielded child is at risk, but especially children who are subjected to nationwide publicity and their identities and locations accessible to the public. Both boys and girls are entered into these pageants.
These are snapshots taken at her ballet recital at age 4 or 5. I do not have copies on my computer of her studio portraits in her portfolio. At this recital, one of the tiny ballerinas was struck with such stage fright that she ran off stage weeping and hid. When she could not be found, her mother was called from the audience to help find her. A missing child strikes terror in the hearts of everyone. In this time of such widespread pedophilia, I do not think children should be exposed and made accessible to the general public.
I am very private about my own personal identity. I have numerous children , grand children, and great grandchildren in various locations. I do not identify this child nor her place of residence, even though that information is available in some circles.

I don't mean to cast any of your family in a bad light, but I always ask, when I see this sort of thing; "Is this something for the kid that they will really enjoy, or are the parent(s) reliving their youth via the child?" I personally also disapprove.

She's beautiful of course but she'd be even more beautiful if she looked her age.
Sorry but I think kids should be kids. The ballet is fine but the beauty queen aspect bothers me.

Good question TFWY, and I have to say, I think that's the case. No little child will enjoy doing such activity

Is it because of predators, or lost childhood?
This little girl should be out there playing with other kids and live out the carefree magic of childhood. Worrying about how she looks, and thinking that the sun rises and sets on her looks aren't what childhood is all about.
Not a parent, but I was a child once.

Again, not a parent here, but I think this generation of parents really tries to live vicariously through their kids more than their predecessors.
If not their little girls in beauty pageants, then its their boys in sports. They all think their kids will be NBA and NFL stars.
Back to beauty pageants, they just seem soooo outdated.

Worried, I totally agree with you. My 3 yr old is considered by many people very 'cute', 'pretty', and I've been told I have 'good looking kids' (as in, gee, you have goodlooking kids..oh, ehm, thanks!) and I was also told that for sure she could be in commercials or films etc.. for exACTLY your reason have I thought, I don't think so! Not meaning to be crudely graphic, but those pedophiles get a hold of a picture and well, you know what will happen next. You'd think with the many stories that are out there and Oprah doing her great work educating people on the dangers..people'd know better.. keep being protective Worried.. better err on the side of caution..
