Baghdad Claims 50,000 Dead
Most agree that figure is much too low and that there is no way to provide an accurate count.
An article I posted a few days ago estimated at least 100,000. Whichever is closer, the majority were innocent civilians and it's far too many.
This article from Truthout today breaks down the numbers and how they were achieved.
But, as Tony Snow said so brilliantly when our death count reached 2,500, it's only a number. Right?

I was visiting my parents today. My Dad, a WWII combat vet, soon to be 90 years old, picked up the newspaper. He rarely says much about politics, but he read that headline and said "Good God 50,000 Iraqis dead... after a little over 3 years". I told him that some estimate it more at 100,000. He was mortified. He looked at me in disbelief and said, "It's time to bring the troops home."

How is that anything BUT a war crime. I certainly hope to see Bush and Cheney stand trial in Den Haag, but I know better than to hold out too much hope for that. How are they different from Milosovic or Charles Taylor?

This is such a horrible war. Thanks for talking about the numbers of Iraqis killed. It's shameful that the American media ignores this.
