Soldier's Blog from Iraq

This is a blog from a soldier in Iraq. His opinion of the situation.

You can access it at the following url:
http://www.iava.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1652&Itemid=142

My grandson in Iraq says the heat is around 110 to 122 degrees now and expected to go to 130+degrees as summer advances. So heat, sandstorms, attacks from insurgents and crapola from Washington, our military have a bad time which they endure with amazing fortitude. (To see a photo of my grandson and the area he is stationed, click on June archives. He is only one of many.)

Hype, thank you. I would have answered on your blog or by email but you seem to have neither.

    Come back anytime.

Hype, I LOVE your blog!! Fascinating. Please do post more!!

Thank you for visiting us and please do come back again.

Donkephant: You, too. So glad you visited us. We value our visitors and their input.

I think that too many people fall for Bush's line, "if you're not with me, you are with the terrorists" which is a foolish statement. People take that a bit further and think if you are against the war, you are against the troops, which is also foolishness.
Also, too many of our troops are ignorant of other cultures and have been brainwashed against the "enemy" (so are many civilians). They are ignorant of the history of the U.S. politics and dealings with the Arabs/Muslims and how our country has abused and exploited those nations. "Those people" did not come to hate us because of our freedoms (as Bush has brainwashed the troops to believe); they have learned through bitter experience to despise our government for the abuses inflicted upon them.
I lived in an Arab/Muslim country for a number of years and was treated with the utmost respect and hospitality, even though I wore American clothing, smoked, sometimes had a glass of wine, and exercised all the freedoms to which I was accustomed in my own country. The people did not hate me for my freedoms. They became dear friends and coresponded with me for many years after I returned to America.
    Keep up the good work.

P.S., in case you do not know it, I am a woman. Even though in their culture most women did not dress or engage in the same activities I enjoyed, they understood and tolerated the cultural differences, which is more than I can say for Americans regarding THEIR culture. Too many Americans arrogantly believe that OUR way is not only the BEST way but the ONLY way and assume that other cultures are wrong.
