THE PATH TO WAR WITH IRAN

A Project of the Institute for America's Future

So? What else is new? The US has a long history of covertly, by initiating death squads and uprisings, or openly, through lies and deceit, overthrowing benign, democratic regimes and aiding the installation and support of repressive, autocratic regimes who allow exploitation of natural resources by the US and/or virtual slave labor by US businesses. Encouraged by hefty kickbacks to the rulers, ofcourse. It is a shameful history, full of the blood and lives of the slaughtered during the overthrows and followed by the crushed citizens by the brutal rulers. But it is excused by our government as protecting US interests. For many decades America has been a world wide terrorist, doing great evil in the shadows while maintaining a public facade of a just and moral nation. American citizens were deceived by this facade and were proud of our humanitariansim and moral values, unaware that the recipients of some of our compassionate aid were in such dire straits because of the actions of our government.

This is exactly what the "love it or leave it" crowd needs to acknowlege. Iran/Iraq/etc do not "hate our freedom". They hate the things we have done to harm them.

Absolutely. Study the history of these nations since the western powers established them and it is small wonder they hate us. Or go back even further in history and see there is a long series of events to make them suspicious and distrustful of western powers.

Although most people want a strong government and leadership, I believe the desire for freedoms is enate within the security of their governments.
