Time Magazine - Person of the Year

That would be us .

All of us.

Congratulations.

Update

Some folks aren't pleased, namely Russell Shaw who writes for Huffington.

He named several people he thought were better suited and one piece of technology, the cell phone camera.

He listed a number of choices and asked for a vote. 18% of us liked the selection, 37% of us didn't care (who gives a cow chip was the phrasing). The rest was split.

I can see his point; on the other hand, it was nice to bask in the glow of recognition even when I'm sharing it with zillions of others and even though by tomorrow it will be yesterday's news.

cow chip, that's funny. It actually sounds kinda lame to me. I think Mohammad Yunus would have been a good choice considering he's going to leave a great legacy behind. As for this past year, I cannot think off-hand of anyone else ('famous') who's done the same. It's definitely not a politician..

Probably one reason the administration would love to (and trying to) get Google et al to do for the US what it (they) did for China. That will effectively stop all this unity and success stuff.

I always catch heat for this, but:
I've always thought of TMOY as one person who most changed the world, for better or for worse.

By that criteria then, I have to say Osama Bin Ladin. He sparked two new wars. He caused the last country on earth that practiced Democracy, to stop that practice. He is the reason for nearly unanimous hatred among the rest of the world, for that one country.

I do not relish "honoring" a terrorist, but he has been by far, the most influential in the past year. And why does TMOY have to be an "honor?" It's my opinion that "award" is eye and ear candy, fuzzy feel good for the masses. That does n't make it BAD by any means, just less than honest, in my opinion.

I thought he was at the top of their list. It wouldn't be the first time they've picked an unpopular figure.
