Exxon CEO $13,000+/hour - Minimum Wage $10,500/year

What's wrong with this picture? Everything. My links are acting up again - sure wish I could figure out why. Anyhow, the numbers came from a report in The Nation today with links to an article in last Sunday's NYT.

At $10,500/year, the Times says no person working full time at minimum wage can afford a one bedroom apartment at market rates anywhere in this country. I know the going rates here and I agree. The rents here have skyrocketed since I moved here 13 years ago. They may be lower in some parts of the country but here at least 60% of their income would go for rent alone (without utilities).

Something is terribly wrong.

I'm sorry about the link but The Nation isn't hard to find online if you want the whole article.

Right .... I know...... but I have never known a mimun paying job that could afford you to live alone in an apt. And that is ok.... I mean living alone in an apt is a very american idea, most countries do not have such an idea. I am more concerned that at this lvl is when you see employers making sure they cut you off from health benifits or make them so expensive that you still can't afford it. These jobs treat everyone the wrong way.
