Homeland Security - Start Cleaning House - Update

By now, all of you have seen the front page coverage of a Homeland Security official who was arrested for soliciting teens via the internet. I started to post it last night and then decided to sleep on it. I was too angry to be coherent. In the morning I thought that maybe bad apples can be found anywhere and that this might be an isolated incident.

Not so, evidently. The Tampa Tribune reports that Frank Figueroa, a Homeland Security official in Florida, was arrested in October 2005 for exposing himself to a teenager (and other things - read the article) at a mall Food Court.

One might be an fluke, two is too many. And why are we just hearing about this now? What else are they covering up? Perhaps Homeland Security should spend a little less time setting neighbor against neighbor and a little more time vetting its own people.

Thanks to Farnsworth for the heads up.

After I wrote this, I found a article link in today's Alternet to firedoglake on pedophilia and Homeland Security written from a prosecutor's point of view. He too wonders why Homeland Security slept through all this.

(Don't know how that extra word "article" crept into the link but I can't get it out. It isn't showing up on the draft. Very strange. Read around it please.

"After all, what's a little sexual depravity amongst friends?"

Hit the nail on the head there, Worried. Too often this happens in many different circles in many differing situations; someone who should be punished isn't because he/she is part of a special group that consistently back up their own at all costs. Sexist it may be, but I call it the "Men's Club", you know, special handshake, jobs for the boys, that sort of thing.

It happens in the medical profession too, blind eyes are turned time and time again, and when that won't work, they pull rank and the guilty party often gets off with a lightly slapped wrist...

    *sigh*

I saw about this first over on Blogging Baby. I didn't comment because I was too angry. I still am, really.

I'll go before I really start off. I've already ranted on One Girl & Her Cats about education; that's enough for one week. I'll wait until I've calmed down and I can post about it rationally.
