Bush and the Apocalypse

I sometimes think our leader is certifiable.

He has become the lapdog of the extreme religious right, that we know, and I often think they're certifiable as well.

This is from The Guardian UK reprinted in truthout today.

Well, since God chats with Bush like He does Robertson, there's no telling about Bush's mental stability. He thinks he is anointed by God to further the aims of the extreme RR. One branch of these idiots thinks that God has appointed them to bring about the destruction of the earth in order that Jesus can then return and make a new heaven and earth.

Besides the financial cost of reducing pollution in order to stem global warming, they don't care if it ruins the earth. Because Jesus will make a new one. The enormous destruction of wars and radiation is OK; the faster they can destroy the earth, the sooner Jesus will return. In the meantime they can live a life of immense wealth and ease, and to hell with the suffering of the common man.

I am a Christian who believes in the second coming of Jesus. But my brethren's zeal in bringing about the end times through public policy is beyond stupid.

Jesus specifically said that nobody besides God knows when it will be, and they need to read the Bible more instead of listening to the likes of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.
