Bill Moyers on corruption

I've been watching for something new from Bill Moyers. Here it is, lengthy (it was a speech after all) but to me it was worth reading through.

One quote jumped off the page at me:

In the words of Louis Brandeis, one of the greatest of our Supreme Court justices: “You can have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, or democracy, but you cannot have both.”

We seem to have forgotten.

From the Public Action Campaign today (along with a call to action).

    We seem to have forgotten.

Or worse: stopped careing. It seems even the poorest among us think they will one day join that rarefied world of the mega-rich and so find more kinship with this fanciful dream than harsh reality.

"George W. Bush: Keeping the American Dream safe from reality...."

Sometimes, epm, there is so much to care about I despair.

I'm sure many people (maybe most) are still buying into the Horatio Alger dream.

They won't look at the truth. The truth is too frightening and there's always one more crisis (real or manufactured?) to get their attention.

I think EPM is too close to the truth up there, at least as far as the vast majority goes.

I would add that blaming the poor for their poverty keeps the dream alive.
