Pro-choice Senators and Alito

I have purposely kept my distance from Alito and Roe because I believe the people who say our single issue focus may hurt more than it helps.

His disregard of civil rights, his failure to recuse himself when he morally at least should have done, his apparent comfort with abuse of Presidential power, his membership in racist, sexist organizations, should have been enough.

Is anyone paying attention?

Maybe our best shot is with the pro-choice moderates in the Republican Party. There are enough to swing the vote if they're convinced Alito will vote to overturn Roe and also if they're convinced that overturning Roe would be a disaster for women.

Roe has been nibbled to death by Supreme Court decisions and I'm not all that sure that overturning it would make too much difference at this point. The states which oppose Roe have passed so many restrictions and the climate around the few remaining clinics is so frightening that for those states to outlaw abortion completely may well be academic.

However, I'm willing to keep supporting pro-choice at the Federal level in spite of it all and so I give you an Editorial from the New York Times today.
