Economic Meltdown: Canada vs. U.S.

A Canadian reader has published an excellent post regarding the Canadian vs. U.S. economic meltdown. Their banks are healthy and solvent; they have a worker shortage instead of huge unemployment. Both nations suffer from recession but with great differences. Check it out and ask why??

A Duck Tale

Happy news for a change. From an email I received. About a mother of multiples who is equipped by nature to nurture and rear numerous babies.

A True Duck Story From San Antonio, Texas ...

Something really cute happened in downtown San Antonio this week.

Michael R. is now an accounting clerk at Frost Bank and works

downtown in a second story office building.

Several weeks ago, he watched a mother duck

choose the concrete awning outside his window

as the unlikely place to build a nest above the sidewalk.

The mallard laid ten eggs in a nest in the corner of

the planter that is perched over 10 feet in the air.
She dutifully kept the eggs warm for weeks,

And Monday afternoon all of her ten ducklings had hatched.

Michael worried all night how the momma duck was

going to get those babies safely off their perch in a busy,
downtown, urban environment to take to water,

which typically happens in the first 48 hours of a duck hatching.
Tuesday morning, Michael watched the mother

duck encourage her babies to the edge of the perch

with the intent to show them how to jump off.

The mother flew down below

and started quacking to her babies above.

In his disbelief Michael watched as the first fuzzy

newborn toddled to the edge and astonishingly

leapt into thin air, crashing onto the cement below.

Michael couldn't stand to watch this risky effort.

He dashed out of his office and ran down the stairs

to the sidewalk where the first obedient duckling

was stuporing near its mother from the near fatal fall.

As the second one took the plunge, Michael jumped forward and

caught it with his bare hands before it hit the concrete.

Safe and sound, he set it by the momma and the other stunned

sibling, still recovering from its painful leap.

One by one the babies continued to jump.

Each time Michael hid under the awning just

to reach out in the nick of
time as the duckling made its free fall.

The downtown sidewalk came to a standstill.

Time after time, Michael was able to catch the

remaining 8

and set them by their approving mother.

At this point Michael realized the duck family had only made part of its dangerous journey.

They had 2 full blocks to walk across traffic, crosswalks, curbs,

and pedestrians to get to the closest open water, the

San Antonio River .
The onlooking office secretaries and several

San Antonio police officers joined in.

They brought an empty copy paper box to collect the babies.

They carefully corralled them, with the mother's approval,

and loaded them in the container.
Michael held the box low

enough for the mom to see her brood.

He then slowly navigated through the downtown
streets toward the San Antonio River .

The mother waddled behind and kept her babies in sight.

As they reached the river,

the mother took over and passed him,

jumping into the river and quacking loudly.

At the water's edge, he tipped the box and helped

shepherd the babies toward the water and to their

mother after their adventurous ride.

All ten darling ducklings safely made it into the water

and paddled up snugly to momma.

Michael said the mom swam in circles, looking back toward

the beaming bank bookkeeper, and proudly quacking.

Live simply,

Love generously,

Care deeply,

Speak kindly and treat others as you'd like to be treated.

I didn't know Texas had any rivers except when it rained!:)

Thanks for a great pick me up story!! I need one of those every so often....just to reassure me mankind hasn't regressed a hundred years!!

WA: Yep, we have rivers. They just get bigger when it rains. Once in a while they get pretty ferocious.
You're welcome. It's nice to know that the milk of human kindness hasn't curdled in everyone.

WA: Thank you, Mezamashii. I loved the little story. Nature made all baby creatures cute and adorable, but I think baby ducks are among the cutest. It is heart warming to see humans take responsibility for some of the creatures who share our world.

Octo-Mom - pics - pics of octuplets

This has been all over the news lately and her excuse that she just loves children doesn't hold water. When you are single, unemployed and on food stamps it is inexcusable and irresponsible to contract for such a pregnancy.

Octo Mom's Fertility Doctor Implanted 49-Year-Old With Seven Embryos

Buzz up!

The fertility doctor that helped Nadya Suleman give birth to octuplets also provided treatment to a 49-year-old woman who is pregnant with quadruplets, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Sources tell the newspaper that Dr. Michael Kamrava implanted at least seven embryos from younger donor eggs into the woman, who is currently hospitalized.

"I do think it is concerning, and dangerous, especially to the mother," a doctor familiar with the case told the Times. "She is close to 50. When women get to be that age, our fear is the cardiovascular complications, such as stroke or heart attack. That’s how serious this is."

Meet the octuplets!

Suleman told the Today Show's Ann Curry she was implanted with six embryos, some of which split.

Kamrava is under investigation by the California Medical Board and American Society for Reproductive Medicine, which recommends women under 35 are implanted with no more than two embryos.

See Us' baby bump hall of fame.

Meanwhile, Suleman's publicist revealed death threats forced her to move into a rented house and out of the home she was sharing with her parents in southern California.

The mother of 14 -- who is single, unemployed and receiving food stamps -- began asking for donations on her Web site Wednesday.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Many parents of multiple births have received a tremendous amount of aid, including food, diapers and formula, baby furniture and baby carriers, even a van in which to transport the babies, and a couple of lucky ones got a house! Is it possible that this thoughtless mother was aiming for all the freebie perks? It raises doubts about her motives, especially now that she is asking for donations!

There is little doubt that the taxpayers will pay for much or all of the babies' medical and support expenses. Worse yet, often some babies born of multiple births suffer neurological and other handicaps. Shame on such irresponsible behavior on the part of the mother and also of the fertility doctor!!

Octuplets mother seeking donations on website

9:24 AM, February 11, 2009

Nadya Suleman, the Whittier mother of 2-week-old octuplets plus six other children whose finances have become a matter of national interest after it came out that taxpayers may pay millions for her children's care, now has a website where people can donate items to her children.

Website200 The website, thenadyasulemanfamily.com, invites visitors to "meet the octuplets" as well as to donate items, send wishes to the family or even give money directly using a credit card.

How Suleman can afford her huge family has become an issue in the weeks since she gave birth. She does not have a job, lives with her parents and had $50,000 in student loans

(Three of her other children are handicapped).

I'm really getting of tired of hearing about this pig. A ball bat applied to that gut for ten minutes, then the dumb bitch's head, would have solved everything!

Making that quack pay child support for each kid, say $3-400 a month wouldn't hurt, either.

Monday, February 16, 2009 12:56:00 AM

WA: Multiple births that occur without embryo implantation are acts of nature and parents so affected do deserve some assistance and especially the babies thus conceived and born. But deliberate implantation of so many embryos is irresponsible and the motives are questioned. As I said, the worst thing is the possible handicaps that may afflict the babies. Multiple babies in utero and premature babies (as are those born of multiples) all too often are afflicted with neurological and other handicaps. That isn't fair to new little human beings who must go through life with health problems. This woman already has a number of other children, three of which have physical handicaps for which she draws government assistance. Publishing the babies' pictures on her web site asking for donations (including money) raises the question if she is trying to generate sympathy for the babies - which is usually the case when good hearted people see babies in need. If people are going to donate to this woman, there should be an overseer to monitor her expenditures in order to assure the donations are used properly.

WTF is going on NOW??

Quoting The Gadfly as she commented on a recent visit to my Bedlam in response to hissy fits I was throwing. There are several causative factors for hissy fit throwing at present. Too many to explain at length. I'll mention two.

ONE is: KVATCH's dearly beloved avatar, the multicolored frog, is not displayed on his latest comment NOR on his profile page (latest check). Just a white square with a red dot in corner. That is not to be borne!! Nor could I access his blog! I get a message that the connection has timed out blah blah blah. KVATCH!! What's the deal?? Kvatch Frog, Come Back!!
Update: He's back!! At least for now.

Two: A week long battle with the Dastardly Duo, Blogger and Google. For some reason this blog's sidebar has once again been scattered like a train wreck under the posting section at the bottom of the page. In the past this happened because text of a post extended into sidebar territory, causing the sidebar to be pushed way down and under. Bringing the posting text back into proper boundries solved the problem. UNLESS I was using Internet Explorer for my browser, then any type of malfunction was possible, including a final insult of publishing the orange header all the way to the bottom of the page with text letters several inches tall. I switched to Mozilla Firefox for my browser and rarely had problems after that.

But now this! I cannot find a solution to the problem and neither Blogger nor Google offer any help. They DO offer several THOUSAND posts to peruse on Group Help. Thanks, Guys.

Update: It's a miracle!! Now that the Dastardly Duo has driven me to the point of utter exasperation, tonight the sidebar is miraculously restored. Cross my fingers!!

Up=Update: Now it's disappeared again! What is going on???

It's still okay from here. I never use IE - always Firefox so that might be part of it.

I looked at the borders and it doesn't appear do have anything pushing the text down like it did before.

Weird. Hope you're okay. We're getting a little water logged which is alright since we've been heading for a drought here in the CA central valley.

Problems with IE was in the past. That's why I use MF exclusively the last couple of years. I have very few glitches with MF.

Gadfly uses MF when she uses my computer and so does Wild Child. Jeannie uses my computer sometimes for her Face Book and Tagged sites and she might use IE. I'll have to ask her,But even if she does, I don't know how that would affect IAB and none of my other blogs.

Strange.

Lot of family problems but otherwise OK. here. Lots of droughts in US places and the rest of the world. Scary.

Is The(Censored ) Still Protected?

Granny Ann and I have posted in the past about "She Who Shall Not Be Named". It was obvious that she had powerful protectors, allowing her to get away with "illegal, immoral and unethical behavior, ranging from plagiarism to defamation, perjury to voter fraud". She, like BushCo at the time, was above the law, which she violated on numerous occasions, not to mention the rules of decency. I hope they nail the witch!!

Ann Coulter Under Investigation For Voter Fraud

The Huffington Post | Rachel Weiner | February 8, 2009 12:43 PM

The New York Daily News reports that Ann Coulter is under investigation by the Connecticut Elections Enforcement Commission for allegedly voting in that state while registered to vote in New York City.

Officials are responding to a formal complaint filed by Coulterwatch.com blogger Dan Borchers. "For over 10 years, Ann Coulter has gotten away with illegal, immoral and unethical behavior, ranging from plagiarism to defamation, perjury to voter fraud," claims the conservative Borchers. Coulter declined to comment, but in the past has branded Borchers a stalker. He says the FBI has determined he poses no threat.

Coulter was investigated and cleared of wrongdoing in 2006 for allegedly violating Florida's voter registration laws by voting in the wrong precinct.

But Brad Friedman of BradBlog.com reports that Coulter was never actually cleared; the Florida Election Commission dropped the case after deciding that the two-year statute of limitations had run out.

An official previously told the Daily News that they would investigate "if we received a complaint under oath." Read more about Daniel Borchers, who filed the complaint, here.

That scrawny neck, clenched plastic smile, loony tune eyes, and lifeless hair looks so much like Nancy Pelosi I swear she changes in a phone booth after each session of congress...(:

What TFWY said, delta the fact that Pelosi has the kind of power that Coulter can only wish she had. Much to our eternal chagrin.

Remember the Holocaust Day

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

George Santayana - Life of Reason, Reason and Common Sense. 1905

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Because I'm a sometimes scatter brained old woman I failed to recall that January was the month for some important remembrances. One was Holocaust Remembrance and the other was NASA's Remembrance Day for our astronauts who perished pursuing our dream of space. I will post on the Astronauts later.

Today I post on the Holocaust and think "there but for the grace of fate, go I and some of my friends". Old Woman and her family are descended from Native American ancestry; the Nazis hated all people of darker skins so if Germany had won WWII, adios you Indians! These past few years I have regarded Bush's concentration camps balefully and fearfully lest he make good on his threat "if you aren't with us, you are with the terrorists" (treason with the death penalty). Most of my friends and bloggers were against him and I wondered when the jackboots would be kicking down our doors. And heigh ho, heigh ho, off to the camps we go.

You don't have to like the Jews to remember what happened to them in WWII. I'm not fond of Israel's actions but I remember the horrors and bear in mind it COULD happen to us! In the Holocaust, about 5.6 - 6.25 million Jews were exterminated between 1933 -1945; approximately 5 million non-Jews were killed - Soviets, Polish Catholics, Serbians, Roma "gypsies", journalists, teachers, activists, handicapped, alcoholics, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses. Also, 1.5 million children were killed.

In every war and conflict, under every evil, despotic government, there have been ethnic cleansings, massacres, mass murders and enslavements. We ain't immune, duckies. .
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

International Holocaust Remembrance Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Holocaust Remembrance Day
, which occurs on January 27, is the first universal commemoration in memory of the victims of The Holocaust. more

Holocaust - music James Blunt's "No Courage", applicable to ALL wars and acts of tyranny. Graphic. Watch and remember the past. Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
