Usual Mudslinging by Opponents' Buds, Or Fact?

The stink raised by certain medias about McCain's alleged hanky panky with a female lobbyist and accusations that he pushed legislation favoring her clients is in full swing. Anybody that watches the news has heard about it so I won't go into that little tale. I just want to point out the campaign slogan about "honor and Integrity". When referring to polliticians, is that an oxymoron?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080221/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_lobbyist

excerpted item:
"The allegations in the Thursday report in the Times — and a story in The Washington Post — contradict core themes of McCain's campaign — that he would bring honor and integrity to the White House as well as a record of changing business-as-usual Washington ways."

How soon they forget! Has McCain forgotten Bush and Cheney's self righteous attitude and lying promises during the 2000 presidential Bush campaign and what a (bleeping) bust those words proved to be?

Reminder:

DERRICK Z. JACKSON

Invisible integrity

WE WERE promised transparent dignity. We got the invisible dungeon.

All during the 2000 presidential campaign, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney leaped all over President Clinton's sexual controversies. ''We want to restore honor and integrity to the White House," Bush said. Cheney echoed, ''It is absolutely essential for us to do whatever has to be done to restore honor and integrity to the Oval Office."

It was a refrain that Senator John McCain used himself in the Republican primaries. When he was beaten into submission by Bush, McCain said, ''My primary reason for endorsing Governor Bush is based less on policy than it is principle. Quite simply, I believe that he is our best hope to end the Clinton-Gore era and restore honor and integrity back to the White House."

By the end of his third debate against Al Gore, Bush went so far as to mix church with his stated pledge. ''Should I be fortunate to become your president, when I put my hand on the Bible, I will swear to not only uphold the laws of the land, but I will also swear to uphold the honor and dignity of the office to which I have been elected, so help me God."

(If you want to read the rest of this article, click on the url above. In fact, I recommend it).

I don't like Bill Clinton (nor Hilary, either) for unsavory reports of dishonesty and chicken shit, underhanded actions. I don't like Bill for making an international scandal and laughingstock of the U.S. presidency by his stupid actions with a hot pants intern (WooHoo! Look at ME! I screwed a PRESIDENT! Lewinsky!) and then his even more stupid denials (I did not have sex with that woman! Define "is". ) And I don't like him for his adultery. I know that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances motivating such actions ...BUT...the president of the United States should have had better sense and judgement!! (And yeh, I was wild
as a Georgia buck in my salad days, but when I married and made a commitment to my husband, I honored that commitment and was loyal to him as long as he lived).

Clinton's infidelity is not the point here. The point is Bush and Cheney's self righteous bull shit and promises to "restore honor and integrity" to the White House. We see how much honor and integrity those two have shown! Does McCain really want to link to them in the minds of the voters? He'd best choose another slogan.

Personally I don't give a damn if McCain fooled around with a lobbyist but I do care if he favored her clients because of his relationship with her. Favoring lobbyists is a betrayal of the public trust, a betrayal most politicians practise, including our president.

I don't like War Hawk Bomb-Bomb-Bomb-Iran McCain either but neither do I like mud slinging to discredit an opponent. If the guy is a crooked s.o.b., PROVE IT with facts. Otherwise, shut the hell up!

(P.S. Old Woman is out of town. Death in the family. I'm filling in for her. I HATE politics!).

The sad thing is that the article documents half a dozen serious, verified ethics violations by John McCain, but all the press is talking about is the alleged infatuation. They should be asking him about the other things he's done.

You can read the article HERE.

It looks like lying, cheating, stealing, comitting fraud, torture, violating every ethical standard there is, toadying up to the religious right for votes, catering to lobbyists and Big Business to the detriment of the nation and the citizens, driving the nation into bankruptcy that our great grandchildren's children will be paying off, murdering hundreds of thousands of people, destroying nations, etc. etc. etc. is acceptible but the media is fixiated like teenagers with SEX! Or like the religious right.

Years ago I bought into the McCain- Vietnam-War-Hero,POW-hero hype.Time has opened my eyes. Suffering service in a war does not necessarily make a person a hero; getting captured and imprisoned does not necessarily make a person a hero; surviving imprisonment does not necessarily make a person a hero. Being a hero involves much more than that. There were POWs who WERE heroes, no doubt about it. His callousness towards the inhumanity and destructiveness of war and towards our military personnel leads me to believe he either suffered little OR he has no compassion or human feelings - just cooperation with the imperial get richer goals of his superiors. He damned sure doesn't have any loyalty to the constituents and the nation.

Whatever John McCain may have been in his younger days, he isn't that now and hasn't been for some time.

The man formerly known as "Daniel" from down under just emailed me - he can't access our comments to post.

Most blogs have an extra couple of lines allowing people without a google account to post. For some reason we don't.

Hey, Gadfly, if all those things you listed were made into laws and politicians were supposed to lie and cheat and steal, etc, being the ornery creatures they are they'd probably do the opposite and we could all live happily ever after.

Thanks Granny for enabling me to comment again. I've had withdrawal symptoms cut off as I was from my favourite blog.

Here's hoping this one goes through! Cheers.
