Matthew Shepard Act Stalled in Senate

I woke up to WA's posts this morning (and to the continuing problems with the dastardly duo).

I left a short comment and then decided to update a little of what I'd written earlier.

(I think I already did this but it won't hurt to mention it again.)

The Senate version of the Act was attached to a Department of Defense Bill which never made it to the Senate floor for vote. I'm sure if it had passed the Senate in that form, it would have been vetoed by the "Decider".

The House version of the Act, which passed, stood alone. Why did the Senate decide to attach it to a Defense bill which never would have become law?

Here's an update from the Matthew Shephard Foundation.

The picture at the top is my youngest son with my two younger great-granddaughters, Rochelle and Rebecca, at their sister Elcie's middle school graduation. WA wrote about Tim in one of her earlier posts today and I've written about him often. He's gay, the girls are biracial.

Fine looking family, Granny! Lovely girls. Handsome son! It is unthinkable that haters would torment those darling girls because of their racial makeup or physically wound Tim because of his orientation. The Hate Crimes Bill MUST be passed and stricter laws enacted against hate crimes.
