FUNDIES: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

What is the excuse some legislators give for stalling/failing the Hate Crimes Bill? Fundie's lies and the millions of deceived followers who bombard their reps to fail the bill (can't ignore all those voters, now can we?) That is one reason all us progressives et al need to do some bombarding of our own. We are voters too but we really have to hustle to out-bombard the fundie followers.

With the Senate considering new hate crimes legislation that adds sexual orientation to the list of protected categories, bloggers have been noting the acceleration of a right-wing disinformation campaign that I first noticed on Election Day in 2004. I was listening to Christian radio flush out Republicans to the polls. I learned, as I wrote then, that
a certain bill Senator Edward M. Kennedy wishes to pass, with the intention of providing federal penalties to thugs who beat up people for reasons of sexual orientation, is actually an opening wedge to anti-Christian pogroms. Dobson and his cohorts have been railing that is not just a step but a giant leap down the same slippery slope that found a Swedish minister named Ake Green sentenced to prison for preaching against homosexuality from his pulpit. [WA: American laws aren't Swedish laws anyway]

I started digging. And I found that claim epidemic. Here was the Maryland Family Values Alliance, which said Kennedy's bill
"would literally throw open the door to attacks against people of faith, who could be prosecuted with federal monies for expressing their views on homosexuality!"

A Dr. John Ankerberg invoked Ake Green to argue
"that our next president and the Supreme Court justices that he will appoint could radically change the way you practice your religion.... You will not be able to teach all that the Bible says in your church."

His authority was Albert Mohler, the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the flagship of the nation's largest (and most politicized) evangelical denomination. And what did the man who teaches the nation's Baptist preachers argue? That
"[i]f this law is passed, which it will be in a very short time if Christians do not act, even witnessing for our Lord Jesus Christ will be a crime in America, as it is already in several countries around the world."

If you are a conservative Christian in America, it is likely that Ake Green is a household name—and that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt in 2004 that Senator Kennedy had introduced a bill to visit his fate on American ministers who preach God's word about homosexuality.

You'd have to actually have read Kennedy's S. 966 to find out, as these good ministers of the gospel counted on their flocks not to do, that this was a dastardly lie. Read it backwards, sideways, up and down. Read it a thousand times. The law covers physical violence, nothing else. Those visions of thought police and preachers in jail are simply made up. Invented. Big Lie propaganda.

"bear false witness = lying, telling lies". A direct order from God.

Why do people lie? Isn't it generally to get the advantage? To make things appear as they would like to have you believe they exist, not as they truly are

Negative words create a mental image in the mind of those who hear them. They plant a seed that, once laid, is difficult to uproot. They can indeed destroy others.
Solomon points out the advantage of telling the truth, A true witness delivers souls: but a deceitful witness speaks lies

He instructs us to buy the truth and sell it not. Why? Because, they that deal truly are His (God's) delight.
Yet what is God's opinion of those who lie?
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord. Prov. 12:22
[Abomination: a.bom.i.na'shan, Abomination, (1)Something extremely hated or despised; (2)that which is abhored; (3)something detestable; (4)the state of being loathed. (5)something that produces a strong aversion, as disgust.] So see what you are to God, you liars!

Will those who lie benefit? God tells us that, A lying tongue is but for a moment. Prov. 12:19

Those who lie may benefit for a short time but they will not escape punishment. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies will not escape. Prov. 19:5

It is to our benefit then to be truth bearers and not false witnesses. For those who speak lies will be punished.

Or if you will, breaking the ninth commandment of God. Just think, if the ninth commandment were in force what sort of changes we would see in the smear campaigns that pass for politics!
[WA: Or what a change if there were no lies and deceit coming from our highest seat of government that lead the citizens astray and our nation into ruination].

If God's law against bearing false witness were in full effect there would be no more 'cover ups'. No group mentality where one segment of the populace, be it cultural, political, medical or even religious, felt it necessary to cover the facts in order to 'protect their own'. Everyone would be honest and straight forward.

Oh, so you're counting on the "once saved, always saved" and all your sins are forgiven by the blood of Christ? Um hum! But remember, one must be TRULY REPENTANT to be forgiven and according to your own beliefs, God knows your heart and that you're a lying sack of it when you say "forgive me". So you shall be hoist upon your own petard.

Since you don't seem to know the Scriptures that you claim to follow, let me elucidate about that last sentence since you probably don't know what that means either:
" hoist with your own petard, you get into trouble or caught in a trap that you had set for someone else.
conjugation of the french verb "peter". The phrase refers to becoming a victim of one's own evil design or to get a taste of one's own medicine."

Your evil lies will not go unpunished and will come back to haunt you in the end.
