Freedom of Religion?

Hi PT. Glad you're back.

From Chicago Sun-Times Quick Takes
7-6-06

News Item: Army National Guard Sgt. Patrick Stewart is killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan.

News Item: Stewart's widow requests that the symbol of his Wiccan religion be included on his plaque at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

News Item: Department of Veterans Affairs continues to block memorial plaque nine months later.

Not to put too fine a point on it. But what is the matter with us, anyway?

People put all kinds of things on plaques, such as pictures, etc. I even know someone who had the image of a car put on a relative's tombstone. Why single this particular thing out? Silly.

Supposedly this nation was founded on many principles, including the freedom of religion. This discrimination reflects the radical fundamentalist religion's pervasive influence in Washington.

But Granny, there is only one true faith, and if you don't believe in Jesus as your personal savior and the ruler of the United States of America, which is a Christian nation, not a pagan nation, then you don't deserve to have your false religion recognized... [ end sarcasm ]

This is just one of the things that has happened recently that is so disturbing. The driving out of a Jewish family in Delaware, the perversion of the Statue of Liberty that was put up in Tennessee, very disturbing.

Remember folks, the CC, RR and Christian Reconstructionists go hand in hand. They differ a bit on a fedw views but basically are in one accord.

If we allow the Reconstructionists to gain theocratic power - as it seems they gain more every day - citizens will either convert to their brand of Christianity or be executed as worshippers of false gods. And fellow Christians, that includes you, me, and Granny if we do not follow their rigid, Old Testament theology - which Granny and I do NOT. Those people regard every Christian denomination other than their own as apostate or false so it's off to the stoning pit you go, heigh ho.

Historical examples? One, check out the 300 year persecution and executions of non-Catholics in Spain and elsewhere during the Inquisitions. Gruesome, and a perfect example of how mankind can err in interpreting the scriptures. Check out how the worthy Pilgrims and their descendents treated people who failed to believe as they did.

Religious intolerance has a long history in many lands. For some years in appeared the US had risen above such religious monomania but now it seems we sink back into a dark age.
