Better Dead than Impure
The FDA will probably approve a vaccine for some forms of cervical cancer soon. The extreme religious right has objected right along and has still not given up.
They apply their abstinence only program of course. If our daughters should contract this disease, it's their own fault. They should have abstained. They've always been opposed to prevention of pregnancy and STD; now they're imposing a death sentence. Tony Perkins, one of the most extreme of their gang, is leading the charge.
I wonder what part of "thou shalt not kill" escapes them. May they all rot in whatever hell exists.

Wonder what they say to virgin nuns who contract cervical cancer?

The Christian Taliban at it again. I guess a woman who abstains from sex until marriage, but them has a philandering husband who gives her HPV was just asking for it, huh? About about a woman who is raped and contracts it and them develops cervical cancer? I guess that is just God's will.

I do not think that fear of cancer has ever caused a young person to abstain from sex. Most teens do not even know of the virus. Most do know of STDs yet still engage in unprotected sex. Fear is not a very effective way to counteract the powerful sex urge. Teens feel invulnerable anyway, always so certain that bad things will not happen to them, so they engage in risky behaviors. Education is the key to TRY to get them to practise safer behaviors.
