Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran - a history of sorts
Slate wraps up our history with these three countries quite neatly.
It goes back before the Shah in Iran, to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, and what was happenng in Iraq while all this was going on.
Interwoven is our part in all this turmoil. Interesting reading.

Mr. Kinsley left out the part on how Saddam Hussein was a trained CIA Assassin!

Kris - left you a comment asking for a little more info (although it certainly doesn't surprise me).

There is a great deal left out about the USA involvement with Saddam as a "good friend", supplying him with bio-chem weapons for the war with Iran instigated by the US, assuring him the US had no interest in interfering with Saddams attack on Kuwait - then betraying him and attacking him with lies and bombs. It is a long and sordid story, too long for his brief article. Another shameful chapter in the history of our nation.
