A Victory
xpatriatedtexan posted on 1-20-06 about a police officer dying of cancer who was unable to leave her survivor benefits to her domestic partner, another woman. This was a local decision which was strongly criticized by most who read it.
Some of you may have been keeping up with this New Jersey case. If not, xpat has a complete history so there's no need to repeat it all here.
He now has an update. The local government has backed down, Ms. Hester will be able to leave her benefits to her partner, and there's a good chance the state law will be amended to allow people to assign their survivor benefits however they choose.
The link to the "victory" article in in the title. For the rest of the story, drop over to xpat's blog which is always interesting reading.

I'm glad she was able to do what she wanted with her benefits.
