It Was Only A Matter of Time
Florida and its illustrious leader have outlawed thinking in the public school system.
Teachers may no longer teach history; only parrot what is written in the textbooks.
What's next, newspeak?
From Common Dreams.

and yet- people in america as a whole refuse to believe that this is becoming a fascist country. not so much nazi as facist. at any rate, what is happening is textbook facism- totalitarian state stuff. perhaps after it is too late americans will get their heads out of their asses.

I just posted a comment about this at Dawn's Dreamscape, so I'm adding that here, too:
I'm teaching history again for the first time in 8 years, and I've been thinking about presenting information in a way that allows students to form their own judgments. It's hard, but it's something we have to strive to do. Some general things I remember from studying history in college:
Each generation reinterprets history.
Facts DON'T speak for themselves. (Is that Twain?)
The "victors" write history.
Excellent article. The search for truth and understanding is nothing to fear. Using history to indoctrinate our citizens is very scary.
