COMPARED TO BUSH, McCARTHY WAS A PIKER

BUSH SPIES ON ALL CITIZENS, NOT JUST MUSLIMS.

LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND NATIONAL GUARD, DHS, AND WHO KNOWS WHO ELSE SPIES ON US AND COLLABORATES WITH THE GOVERNMENT. THE SLIGHTEST PROTEST CAN BE CONSTRUED AS "TERRORIST ACTIVITY".

BUSH APPEARS TO BE ON A CONCERTED ATTACK TO STIFLE DISSENT . OUR CIVIL RIGHTS ARE IN GREATER JEAPORDY THAN WE REALIZE.

Matthew Rothschild maintains a column titled, "McCarthyism Watch".
He keeps tabs on rights violations by authorities, ordinary people like me, Granny, and our readers. Check it out. It's too many to read in one sitting but return to it for more when you have time.

Find a post that interests you and click the "more" link for the rest of the article. You won't believe some of the persecution visited upon innocent people. Not Muslims, not minorities, not gays specifically -- just us John Q. Citizens out here, a cross section of America.

Granny and I had better watch our Ps and Qs. Even little old ladies aren't safe. A new intelligence unit of a National Guard monitored a protest by Code Pink, Raging Grannies, and the Gold Star Families for Peace. When a commotion ensued about the investigation, the unit was dismantled and computer drives erased. A meeting by the Code Pinks and Raging Grannies with the director of the Guard's public affairs officer ended with refreshments of tea and cookies. Sounds like a bunch of wild eyed terrorists, doesn't it? And who do you think was behind the secret intelligence unit in the Guards?

A college student taking a course on fascism and totalitarianism requested Mao's "Little Red Book" from the library as part of his studies. The student and teacher were subjected to interrogation and investigation by the DHS, who said the book was on the "watch list". How did the DHS know about the student's request? Are librarians across the nation ordered to report check out of "watch list" books? Or are the government computers programmed to flag such suspicious activities --a la Mel Gibson's movie "Conspiracy Theory" where his purchase of "Catcher in the Rye" is duly noted by the bad guys' computer. We shake our heads in disbelief, but...who knows?

A high school student makes a poster depicting political dissent for his class project; a photography clerk that processed the film of the poster reported him to the government and the ensuing investigation scared the pants off the kid as well as the rest of the students. Another high school's musical play is investigated because a student claimed the singers twisted the lyrics to say something detrimental to Bush. A woman campaigning for a minor city office is investigated because an opponent reported her as saying she was going to cut Bush's head off. Minor mickey mouse crap that would have been ignored under another administration.

One organization tagged as terrorist was the Second National Conference of the New Civil Rights Movement, co-sponsored by the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH. Now, come on people! Let's get real!! And on and on, ad infinitum.

So what's the point to this tremendous waste of the taxpayer's money in these foolish persecutions? Instilling fear. Make people afraid to speak out, to dissent. To quietly accept the loss of their freedom and civil liberties. To foster division, a lack of unity, foster distrust of one's neighbors who might falsely accuse you or misinterpret an innocent remark. Divided we fall -- prey to the consuming drive for power of our leaders and their ilk.

quotes from some of the articles:
"What is a terrorist? The word is just a propagada tool to dissuade people from getting involved in activism..."
"...they're trying to squash dissent ...against the Bush administration."
The ACLU: "...when the FBI and local law enforcement identify affirmative action groups as potential terrorists, every American has cause for concern."

We know there are terrorists out there who pose a threat to us and our country, but this administration is using that threat falsely to conquer the American people. School kids doing homework? School choirs singing songs? Little old Grandmas serving tea and cookies? Darn it, Granny, as much as we've mouthed off on this blog, we'd REALLY better be ready to flee to Canada and beg for asylum. I'd better keep the battery charged on my electric scooter.

I hear you. I mentioned somewhere that I actually own a copy of Mao's book. Spotted it in a second hand book store and picked it up for about a quarter to see what all the fuss was about.

I was a history major, so I have all kinds of books that would make me nervous if I hadn't had them so long.

This is insane! The next election can't come fast enough to suit me.
