BLOOD, DEATH, AND DESTRUCTION - IN LIVING COLOR
FACES OF HUMANITY --FACES OF WAR
It has long been the practise of the media to avoid publishing photographs of the American military in death. Bush even ordered non-publishing of the array of coffins being returned to the US. The former is a good thing; if (God forbid) my grandson should die in Iraq, I would be sorely pained to see his dead face plastered all over the news medias. Not publishing photos of the coffins? Probably to avoid the emotional and psychological impact it would have on the American people and the negative influence it would have about the war.
But war is about death. And blood. And destruction. And not just our military. The enemy bleeds and dies also. And as in any war, so do innocent civilians. Towns and cities are ravaged, their infrastructure destroyed. And angry, terrified, grieving human beings are caught in the vise-like jaws of two warring factions.
This post is not intended to offend anyone. We are adults and should be able to face truth. And truth is sometimes painful.
Two photo-journalists entered forbidden territories and did what those people do -- and compiled a photo-essay of the war. In it, we see the face of the "enemy".
WARNING: DO NOT ACCESS THIS URL IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO THE SIGHT OF BLOOD OR DEATH. SOME SCENES ARE RATHER GRAPHIC AND THE DEAD CHILD WILL TEAR YOUR HEART.

Through our local media we are shown photos of our military in action; destruction of enemy property, enemy strongholds. We are told of victorious actions. We are told.....
Here, we see and are told through pictures the other face of war: the suffering humanity, the end results of what our sons and daughters are called upon to do in the name of Bush's War. Look at them and imagine that it is YOUR city, YOUR neighbors, YOUR young men, YOUR child.
The "enemy"? May God have mercy on us. Who is the enemy?

I only need to see the names of the dead printed daily in the newspaper, the town they came from, and their ages which are heartbreaking.
Our gov't does not respect it's own constituency, considers itself to be above laws they dislike, is arrogant and disdainful when dealing with other
nations and cultures, and violates the basic civil rights of all repeatedly.
For me, it is doubly unfair and heartbreaking that the same generation that sent friends and lovers to their death in SE Asia are now sending their children and grandchildren to a similiar, useless fate in the ME.
In those 30 years, we have been more concerned with materialism than civil technology; religion over science; things over people.
I'd be honored to be included in this forum.
