Spadoman is Moving / On Being an Activist

Spadoman at Round Circle, http://jspado.blogspot.com , is moving to another residence. During the move, he will be offfline until he can get set up in his new domicile, so for a few days will have no new posts. One of his recent posts tells about his wife's busy life as a peace activist. A good read.

Compared to her busy-ness, Spadoman seems to feel that he is not doing enough. Well, Spadoman, we bloggers also serve. Blogging, spreading the word, emailing our representatives to let them know the will of the constituents, signing petitions, sending pertinent articles and notices to people who miss certain news and who do not read blogs is one way to be an activist.

Another way to be an activist is to join the Kommandos. We have posted on the Kommando project here in the past. Not everyone can join marches, vigils or demonstrations, carry signs and posters. But anyone can be a Kommando Kommander. It is free to join, and all it takes is a $1.00 bag of toy soldiers, some slips of paper and tape, and a few minutes time writing messages on the papers. You can put a few of the tiny soldiers in your pocket or purse and just set them out here and there as you go about your errands. They are small but are eyecatchers, they get noticed and spread the Word. A number of our Blogger friends are Kommanders, as are Granny and I. Our colorful froggie friend, Kvatch, is the Supreme Kommander and schedules massive pushes at times, but Kommaders can carry on all the time if they desire. Many of us do.

You can check out the beginning at http://blognonymous.com/2006/05/kvatchs-kommandos-big-day-of-protest.html . More info at http://kommandos.blogspot.com/2006/11/whats-kommandos-project-all-about.html . For examples of the project's doings, check http://kommandos.blogspot.com .

If you want to join, email Kvatch at kvkopf@gmail.com to enroll, become a Kommander and a member of the blog where you may post as you see fit. Many Kommanders post photos of their little message bearers and offer comments. The project supports our troops, is anti-war and generally anti-Bush- policies, but other political sentiments are taped to our soldiers also. Any message you want to make public. On the Kommandos blog you are able to read some of the messages in the photos.

Kommanders may enlist children, grandchildren, family, friends and neighbors as "officers" or "noncoms" to assist. One of my daughters is my Sgt. and several great grandchildren are Privates. The great grands love putting out the little soldiers and it makes them feel involved , doing something constructive, and it teaches them that as citizens they have the right to speak out and offer their opinions. They offer suggestions for the messages, like "bring my daddy home". It is a positive and fun activism.

If you join, check the Kommandos blog now and then for news of another big push. Supreme Kommander Kvatch posts when a push will be.

I was in the Walmart today (yes, boo hiss boo hiss) thinking I could find a bag of toy soldiers but to no avail. I'll have to keep an eye out because there are toys for sale everywhere these days (grocery stores, drugstores)
still trying to do 'my duty SIR!'

I have had better luck finding the little guys at various Dollar stores. My local Dollar store now stocks a different brand than before so I get much fewer soldiers than i did with their previous supplier. But at least it is within range of my electric scooter.
