Memorial Day 2006

A little later today, my three young great-granddaughters and I will head for our Courthouse Square with its memorial to all our brave servicemen and women.

We will honor their bravery and their sacrifice. We will think about the servicemen and women from other countries as well.

Then we will honor the innocent victims.

And we will pray for an end to the destruction everywhere.

I want my girls to know Memorial Day is not just another holiday from school.

I won't be posting anything else here today. I can begin ranting again tomorrow.

After I wrote this brief post, I saw this at Jay Lassiter's site.

A fitting tribute and one we should all remember.

Good for you girls. Young people need to learn to always hold service men/women with higher gratitude, for they fight wars, not for their own, but for their nations....With Bush in office, this day has alot of meaning to those who have lost this war, which we shouldn't have fought.

Thank you Dem Soldier. We can hate the wars, disagree with governmental policies, rebel against the war - but always, ALWAYS we need to support the men and women whom our government sends to fight these wars. They are duty bound to obey, honor bound to do their duty, and often have no understanding of why they are called upon to fight. They are deceived and brainwashed concerning the "enemy" and the "necessity" to fight, and led to believe that they are protecting our nation, our freedoms, our way of life. They are the first victims of war.
