Because the US plans a permanent ruling presence there but knows they will need massive defenses against a hostile populace, so all comforts are provided in order than embassy staff will not have to interact very often or very much with the citizens. A small city within a city with all the luxuries of "home".

ReplyDeletethey should call it clubmed baghdad. It's like in Seoul Korea! the US set up a base downtown during the korea war AND NEVER LEFT! like with the greenzone, the property annexed by the US military in korea is PRIME DOWNTOWN realestate.
if i were an iraqi, i'd resent the american presence by now to be sure....
